One of the best first steps to do is to know what and where you’re good at. This way, you’ll be reminded that you are just as important as everyone else. Another thing to bear in mind is that even those who you deem as the “best people” also have their own shortcomings. We have our own flaws in our own way. Stop focusing on what you can’t do. It’s very important not to define ourselves by our own weaknesses. Having a mindset fixated on limitations can actually hinder the discovery of our truest potentials. Be aware that you don’t have to be perfect, as long as you strive to learn and improve, you’re already good enough.
We have different yardsticks for success, so really comparing yourself to other people should be irrelevant to how you perceive yourself. When we continue to measure our achievements using other people’s, we’ll never achieve what we truly deserve. Either we can sink so deep in insecurity or be so drowned by arrogance. Who you go with or hang around with also affects how you think. So be sure to surround yourself with people who are willing to support you and help you become better. Learn to appreciate people who also appreciate you and your good traits. If possible, stay away from those who are keen on discouraging you or those who are not willing to improve. We should be pulling each other up, not dragging ourselves down. Learn to be helped, and also help others.
Self-esteem is not necessarily equivalent to one’s own abilities. But having a positive perception of your own capacity is actually way better than focusing on your doubts or limitations.
